Eating My City, Eating Out Meat Free, Vegan

Pancakes, Sausage Patties, & Home Fries: Ethos Answers My Vegan Breakfast Dreams

Here I am, once again, writing about another one of my experiences at Ethos Vegan Kitchen. I can’t help it. Ethos is just really good at what they do, which for me is making food that reminds me of my meat-eating days and also reminds me why a meat-free lifestyle can be just as tasty.

Although I frequent Ethos a lot, I’m pretty good at being intentional about trying something new each time I go. On my most recent visit, I went all out and had a completely new experience, and I’m quite glad that I did. Since it was the time of year for all things pumpkin, I dove in head first and had my very first experience eating pumpkin pancakes. Let’s just say, I will definitely start trying more things made with pumpkin.

If you’re a frequent reader, you know that brunch is my absolute favorite food genre. I’m still not quite sure why, but is an explanation really needed? On this particular Saturday, I decided to treat myself to brunch before I met up with a few friends for our bi-weekly book club meeting. Grabbing a seat at the bar, I had no idea what I was hungry for… I just knew that I was really hungry. I made my decision quite quickly after hearing about the newly added pumpkin pancakes that were available.

Pumpkin pancakes had never crossed my mind. To be honest, the whole pumpkin frenzy at Starbucks and other eateries around this time of year never really interested me. I mean, I did try one of the pumpkin coffee drinks last year, but I quickly went back to my trusty soy, green tea latte and never looked back.

So, there I was, almost gleefully, putting in my order for pumpkin pancakes, which came with butter, agave, and a side of sausage patties, plus I ordered home fries (because brunch just doesn’t seem right without them).

Ethos - Pancakes

Talk about good! The entire meal from start to finish was everything a girl could ask for when it comes to brunch. The pancakes, which were made with fresh pumpkin, were perfection: crispy edges, soft in the middle, and the pumpkin flavor was delightful.

Oh, and the home fries. Yes, the home fries! I had to stop myself from eating the entire bowl. They were what home fries should be: slightly greasy, with a crunchy skin, and a slightly mushy inside. Oh, and with lots and lots of flavor!

Ethos - PancakesLast, but certainly not least: the sausage patties. Now, I would like to admit that when I first saw them, I was a bit underwhelmed. And, I honestly wasn’t expecting much. In fact, it took me awhile to even give them a try. But when I did, fireworks! Crunchy edges and a meaty inside. Talk about good!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to try brunch at Ethos, I encourage you to go as soon as you can. It’s such a great place to go by yourself or with a group of people. The dishes are big enough that you can order family style and everyone can try a number of different dishes.

Brunch hours are on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.

Enjoy!
