My Mother’s Day Weekend Was a Mix of Vegan and Vegetarian Oldies But Goodies

It started as just a simple girl’s day out, but after a great brunch, an extended stay at the nail salon, and a chat between friends over cupcakes, it turned out to be so much more.

I am such a brunch girl! I’ve mentioned this probably thousands of times before but thought that I would mention it again for good measure. When I am sitting down for brunch, I have absolutely no care in the world. It is usually a mid to late weekend morning of which I am either surrounded by my family or a group of friends. Although it was Mother’s Day weekend, my mother was out of state, so on this day I was surrounded by a few lady friends.

Scheduled weeks in advance, the idea to pay Se7en Bites a second visit was my recommendation. I am really not a fan of visiting places more than once, but, it’s Se7en Bites… soo yeah. After my first visit, I knew that I had to try them again just to see if the awesomeness was a fluke. It wasn’t. Sadly, it wasn’t. Why sadly? Because this means that it is a must that I continue visiting and that I continue introducing their awesomeness to others I know. The hamster wheel continues to go ’round and ’round.

Anyway, as their menu changes from week to week, I was unable to order the waffles that my mom had ordered on our first visit. So, I went with what was promised to be nothing short of amazing: the French Connection. It didn’t take much talking me into ordering this dish. By now, you know that I love anything French. But it was really the description of the dish that really won me over. Here goes: au gratin potatoes, an egg, bernaise, parmesan, tomato, and thyme biscuits. I mean, hello! The non-vegetarian or “regular” variation of this dish included Canadian bacon, but I declined. To say that this dish was good, would be the understatement of the past 5 minutes. The potatoes and, oh!, the thyme biscuits. I would implore you to try this dish but… it probably won’t be on the menu again for some time. Sorry about that :(. So, instead I offer you something better but not quite as good as the real thing: pictures! (Don’t leave without checking them out below.)

Before leaving our brunch, which the other ladies really enjoyed, we planned an impromptu visit to the movies. But alas, this would not be so because instead we high tailed it to the nearest nail salon for pedicures! This is a food blog so I will move quickly to what happened next: vegan cupcakes.

Not to toot my own horn, but visiting Raphsodic Vegan Bakery was completely my idea… toot! toot! Why there? Because I had been daydreaming about their cupcakes for what seemed like a month, and now the opportunity had presented itself. I was not going to mess this up for myself. Thankfully, the ladies agreed and off we went. As always, Raphsodic had a lot of different flavors to choose from. I went with what turned out to be such a good decision: a chocolate bananas foster cupcake and a cinnamon-sugar biscotti. Yes and Yes! As you’ll see in the pictures, the cupcake was topped with banana chips and had a banana mixture on the inside. It was too good. I was a little skeptical about the biscotti, but it was perfect: crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

Talk about a perfect day of food, friendship, and fun! Be sure to check out the pictures below.
