This past week, I participated in what many tried very hard to convince me was an honor. I was a “willing” participant in jury duty. Although I was quite happy to be doing something out of the ordinary on a random Monday, that happiness quickly turned into disappointment once my juror number was called to participate on what would become a 3-day trial. But with my ability and knack for thinking quick on my feet, I immediately had an idea that would turn my bag of lemons into a perfectly-made pitcher of lemonade. I would document my time in downtown Orlando the best way I knew how: through food! With little thought, I quickly chose Orange Avenue’s Whitewood Modern Mediterranean Grill to begin my meat-free journey through downtown Orlando, and what a great decision it was!
You literally cannot miss Whitewood Grill. It is located on the corner of South Orange Avenue, which runs right through downtown Orlando. Plus, it has this amazing open layout. When I went, all of the windows and doors were open, which was such a welcome as it was an amazingly beautiful day. Whitewood’s menu is exactly what you would expect it to be: falafel sandwiches, shawarma, and hummus and tabouleh dishes. But I was there for something a little different. After doing a bit of research before arriving, I had decided that I definitely wanted to try their Medina Flatbread. The woman who took my order, concurred after I told her my plan for my first visit to the restaurant.
Before I jump into the food, let me tell you a little bit more about the restaurant in general. Well, I really only have one more pertinent thing to add. The food is fire grilled, which adds to the flavor and near-perfect preparation of the food. That is all. Now, for the specifics.
My (perfectly crisp) Medina Flatbread was topped with, maybe ‘consumed with’ is a better word, lots of crunchy veggies. There were chunks of eggplant, slices of red peppers, and onions. To make things even better and tastier, underneath the veggies was a layer of hummus and a sweet balsamic glaze was drizzled atop of everything to finish things off. This dish was really good. I especially liked that the flatbread was crispy to perfection.
Great food + great weather + a nice open restaurant = a not so bad first day of jury duty. Be sure to check out the pictures below!
